Fascinating Baroque. German Baroque drawings and paintings from a Augsburg collection
Duration: Saturday, 26 October 2013 – Sunday, 5 January 2014
Vernissage: Friday, 25 October 2013, 7 p.m.
The exhibition presents a hitherto-unknown, top-class collection of master drawings of German Baroque and Rococo. Exhibited are a total of ca. 100 pictures by prominent artists such as Friedrich Sustris, Johann Elias Ridinger, Johann Rottenhammer, Johann Georg Bergmüller, Johann Heinrich Tischbein and Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki.
The collection offers a vivid impression of the various functions of Baroque drawings, which range from designs for church frescoes to prints. Equally various are the techniques with which the artists executed quick sketches, final artworks and miniatures heightened with gold.
A representative catalogue has already been published.
